Since NIGHTWISH established symphonic metal with female vocals as a successful mainstream genre, many ambitious acts have tried too follow their lead. Hardly any other band has shaped and enriched this specific style as much as EPICA, though.

Just one year after the band was founded, the Dutch caught attention with their debut 'The Phantom Agony'. The album already shone with all the virtues that characterize the band to this day: a fresh and lively sound, perfectly balanced between orchestral grandeur and down-to-earth heavy metal, the captivating contrast between singer Simone Simons' soprano and guitarist Mark Jansen's guttural growls, rousing, powerful guitar riffs, keyboard sounds of cinematic quality as well as a driving rhythm section - and in addition multilayered lyrics that ignore the usual fantasy borrowings and encourage thoughtful thinking and complex mind games.

With the grandiose 'Design Your Universe' EPICA finally made its international breakthrough in 2009, and today the band ranks among the major heavyweights of the melodic metal scene. The unique mixture of traditional and modern, melodic and hard, metallic and symphonic elements is gaining more and more fans and with their last regular studio release 'The Holographic Principle' they stormed the top ten album sales charts not only in Germany.

After this monumental show of strength published in 2016, the musicians took a little creative break from "usual business". They started the production of the EP 'EPICA vs. Attack On Titan ', on which they interpreted pieces from the popular manga series "Attack On Titan" in their own typical style and put worked at the "gold edition" of ' Design Your Universe 'as. The successor of 'The Holographic Principle' is supposed to be released at the end of 2020, but prior to that there comes a very special show: EPICA will be part of BANG YOUR HEAD!!! next July. It will be the band's only summer festival show on German soil.
